edit osmo projects in resolve

Three menu items in Resolve: Pull a cut (it downloads only the files that cut uses), Push your version back, and Changes shows what's different. Five minutes to set up, once per computer.

set up

  1. Make your key.

It lets Resolve act as you. It's shown once, so copy it now.

    Checking who you are...

  2. Install the Osmo menu.

Open Terminal (Cmd+Space, type Terminal), paste this, press Enter. It asks for your key.

    zsh -c "$(curl -fsSL https://reviews.osmo.inc/editors/install.sh)"

It needs Python 3, which Resolve scripting needs anyway. If it says Python is missing, install it from python.org, then run the line again.

  3. Turn on scripts in Resolve.

Resolve > Settings > System > General: set External scripting using to Local. Restart Resolve.

  4. Find it: Workspace > Scripts > Edit > Osmo.

the osmo edit app (optional)

A small app in your Mac's menu bar. It follows the projects you've pulled, tells you when someone pushes, locks picture or takes over a branch, and downloads a cut's files ahead of time so Pull in Resolve opens straight away. It also keeps the Resolve menu up to date.

  1. Download it, unzip it, drag Osmo Edit into Applications, open it. It uses the same key as the Resolve menu.
Download Osmo Edit for Mac macOS 14 or newer, signed and notarized by Osmo
  2. Allow notifications when it asks, and tick Open at login in its menu.

every day

  1. Osmo Pull

Pick the project and what to pull: usually latest on main. Keep "I'm cutting this" ticked so others know. Files come down to ~/Movies/Osmo Cache (it picks up where it left off if the internet drops) and the timeline opens with every clip linked.

  2. Cut like normal. Effects, color, titles and audio all come along when you push.
  3. Osmo Push

Write one line about what you changed, then Push. You get a new version number. Push as often as you like: every push is kept.

  4. Done for now

In the Push window, release the branch so the next person can take over.

what the messages mean

you seeit meansdo
"This is now the head of main."Your version is the current cut.Nothing.
"main moved on while you worked"Someone pushed after you pulled. Yours is saved beside theirs; nothing was lost.Open Osmo > Changes to see what they did. Then click Make mine the head, or pull theirs and redo your change.
"... has main checked out"Someone said they're cutting main. Your version is saved, but theirs stays the head.Ask them, or push to your own branch.
"No editing proxy for ..."That file has no small proxy yet, so the camera original came down instead (bigger).Fine for now. The DIT can make proxies with osmo-dit proxies.
"... stay offline"Clips from outside Osmo (stock, music, graphics) that aren't on your machine.Relink those by hand, like always.

for a cutdown or an alternate

Push to your own branch from the command line, e.g. nik/30s, so main stays the main cut. Anyone can pull it from the same menu.

python3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Blackmagic\ Design/DaVinci\ Resolve/Fusion/Scripts/Edit/Osmo/osmo_resolve.py --help

color

Pull the locked version with camera originals ticked: the same timeline, linked to the full-quality files. The conform list on /versions says exactly which seconds of which files the cut uses.
